Active Mom: April 2020

Marlena Cavins

This is MARLENA CAVINS. A super active mom of two boys and soon-to-be of three, expecting a precious baby girl. Dear of being admired, she makes sure to carve out time for self-care and stay active while raising her boys, tending to her hubby and even caring for her mom and grandma. 

What is your name and where are you from?
Marlena Cavins and I live in Houston! Mostly grew up here.
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
2 boys (4 and 1) and a girl on the way, due in June 2020.
Are you a stay at home mom or work outside the home?
I am a stay at home mom. 
Tell us a little bit about your daily routine with the family.
I wake up, get the four year old ready for school and the baby ready for the day, take Diego to school and then to the YMCA for my morning work out. Many days Nico and I stay home to clean, play, nap or we go visit my mom, Lita. Some days we go visit my grandma. Depends on the day! Pick up Diego from school and we either come home for tareas or Diego’s swim lessons. Evening is time for prepping dinner, eating as a family and settling down after dinner clean up.

Love staying at home with the baby and spending time with family, even though it can become mentally and emotionally draining. I wouldn’t trade it for anything now.

When and how did you decide to become active and incorporate self-care into your routine?
I have always tried to stay somewhat active, although I for sure have had more and less active times in my life.
How often do you work out and what type of work out?
I try to work out 4-5 days a week. While
Pregnant, I start of with cardio (walking for now, 30 min) then usually a lightweight upper body work out. It usually lasts 45 min to an hour.
Tell us something about yourself that you’d like others to know.
Love staying at home with the baby and spending time with family, even though it can become mentally and emotionally draining. I wouldn’t trade it for anything now.

Marlena’s Advice to Moms:

Exercise is a part of self care, not just to stay physically healthy, but mentally healthy as well. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but just be moving and active. 

What is your favorite part about being a mom?
Knowing that God chose me and gave me this rewarding opportunity to be a mom. The snuggles, hugs, kisses smiles, all of it, make it worth while.
What advice would you give today’s busy mom when it comes to self-care and adding exercise to their lives?
I believe it is a part of self care, not just to stay physically healthy, but mentally healthy as well. It doesn’t have to be a lot, but just be moving and active.
