Active Mom: February 2020

Hey there moms!

As all stay at home moms, Amy has a full plate of activities at home, school and extra curricular activities with her kids, but has found exercise and staying active even during her pregnancies a safe-haven for her sanity. I won’t keep blabbing and just let you read her interview below:

What is your name and where are you from?
Amee Pineda, born and raised in Houston.
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
Adrian, 6 and Elena, 4.
Are you a stay at home mom or work outside the home?
I am a stay at home mom.
Tell us a little bit about your daily routine with the family.
I start every day out with a workout (after getting the kids to school), then I usually work around the house until school is over. In the afternoon, I take them to their activities-Jiu Jitsu and swimming for my son and gymnastics and swimming for my daughter. We eat dinner together at the table as a family most nights and spend that time talking about our day.

I started working out about a year before my son was born, so about 8 years ago. I had always been pretty active growing up, but hadn’t actually “worked out” in years. My sister in law and I bought a Groupon for Jazzercise, tried it for a month, and we both loved it and signed up.
I worked out and stayed very active throughout both of my pregnancies. Staying active keeps my body and mind healthy. I love the endorphin rush that I get after working out. I believe it is the best way to start the day. The community of women that I have come to know and love through working out is amazing and it has helped me to become a happy, healthy mom.
How often do you work out and what type of work out?
I work out most days of the week, but that has been a progression over time. I started out with 3-4 days a week and have slowly built up to about 6 days a week. I workout at Jazzercise. It is about 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training.
Tell us something about yourself that you’d like others to know.
Fun fact about me: my husband and I dated through high school and college and have been married for almost 12 years!

Amee’s Advice to Moms:

Give yourself the gift of an hour of exercise and self care a day. You are worth it!

My favorite part of being a mom is watching my kids discover and learn new things. They are at an age where they love to explore and experiment, and I love watching the connections they make from what they learn at school into everyday life.
What advice would you give today’s busy mom when it comes to self-care and adding exercise to their lives?
Adding something new into an already busy schedule is hard, but the benefits and rewards of adding exercise are priceless. Exercise has helped me through anxiety, depression, and some hard times in life. Give yourself the gift of an hour of exercise and self care a day. You are worth it!
